Extending the UIPainter ?

Here is a question I got via mail from Jakub Reznicek in Prague: I'm a doing a little project in SmallTalk/X and I've created a component for GUI. Now I'd like to add it into the Widget Gallery in GUI Painter but I do not know where to start - can you give me a hint please? I've found some classes t...

Re: Extending the UIPainter ?

Hello Jakub, look at the UISelectionPanel::UserDefinedGallery class. You should invoke the public interface: " addUserSpecHolder:aValueHolder label:aLabelString " from your application (or some installer). This adds a complete page to the gallery (see a sample caller in FileBrowserV2UISpec...

Re: What are Autoloaded Classes?

a few notes to "autoloading": I've added this mechanism in those early days, when memory was expensive and my machine only had 2Mb of it. So I did not want to have all the seldom used stuff in the image, but still get it almost transparently whenever I need it. (initially, it even had an a...

Re: Cancel-Input

I see your point - you want to have it look like "all ok" in a log or trace - right ?
I've added another entry in the settings dialog for the canceled color.
It is initialized to grey for backward compatibility.

Re: Cancel-Input

mhmh - as I implemented and tested this, I ask myself: a global setting is probably not a very good solution - there might be places, where a cancel actually is worth a notice (in case of a timeout, for example). Shouln't this be a property of the individual step instead ? (such as an "it is ok...

Re: Settings are lost after expecco restart

mhmh - our settings dialog seems to be a bit unclear about that. Why not drop the whole "for this session only" stuff, and always make things persistent ?

Re: Supported Platforms

well, I continue to peek at the mac, but unless there is more pressure from paying customers, it can only run at low prio. I'd love to have it running on a mac, too. The older platforms like SGI, RealIX and AIX are not really supported any longer, unless someone pays for it (I wonder, if those old m...

Re: Smalltalk/X IDE - Powerful Tools

I especially like to point you towards the todoList and the breakpoint browser. I really use them a lot.
(especially the toDoList is nice, reminding you of things in the queue; maybe someone even enhances it, adding more lint-features...)

Re: Method annotations

Oh yes - you are absolutely right in all of your points. The big obstacle in the way is our old friend, the stc compiler. That one is (still) written using yacc and lex, in C. Therefore, it has very limited chances of doing any real work at compile time - especially, and for this issue relevant: it ...

Re: Keyboard Mappings and Shortcuts

I would like to especially point you towards some lesser known, but highly useful keyboard features: CTRL-F2 : learn a macro (this is a toggle) CMD-F2 : replay what has been learned (this is a trigger) F2 : rename (variables, methods, classes, files etc.) [1] CTRL-SPACE : code completion (variable n...
