Method annotations

Method annotations or pragmas (VW terminology) is very powerful feature, that can be used in many cases - http://www.lukas-renggli.ch/blog/ignoring-lint-rules or VW style menu extension methods are just two of them. St/X support for user-defined annotations (I prefer the term "annotation" ...

Re: Method annotations

Yeah, stc is a problem. Passing untranslated annotations in class-library *_Init(phase, pIF) routine is good idea. As a consequence, we cannot have compile-time checked annotations like Java ones (I'm not saying that we need this, just stating that we cannot have it). Is anyone willing to help worki...

Re: Smalltalk/X Application Deployment in Windows

Thanks for the tutorial! I'm trying to compile class my own library (sources: http://smalltalk.felk.cvut.cz/projects/stx-goodies/browser/xmlsuite/xmlreaderimpl/trunk . On Linux, everything compiles & work OK, but I cannot compile it on Windows box (using BCC5.5): c:\Borland\bcc55\bin\bcc32.exe -...

Re: Smalltalk/X Application Deployment in Windows

Claus,
Thanks. Don't worry, this is not a crucial issue for me.
Now, windows version is just nice-to-have :-)

Re: Method annotations

Huh, you did a lot of work already! Nice. The system you are describing is something I'm dreaming about (to say truth, many of my ideas are influenced by your post in VW wiki @ uiuc.edu). Actually, I'm trying to do my PhD in this area. I did some initial experiments, using SELF as a bootstrap langua...

Using C++ Libraries from Smalltalk

We are creating Smalltalk/X binding to Xerces C++ validating parser. After we solved all the gcc vs g++ compilation, extern "C" wrapping etc, we run into following problem: in SAX content handler & input stream class we need to send a message to smalltalk and manipulate with return val...

XTerm dynamic title

For all of you who are using St/X on Linux and running Smalltalk/X from xterm. Following small script dynamically updates XTerm's title (in fact, it should work with any modern X terminal emulator such as gnome-terminal, xfce-terminal etc). It shows Smalltalk/X version and - if any - snapshot filena...

Re: Hardware control

I don't know any classes for that - or at least any classes in publicly available St/X version. On UNIX you can communicate directly via /dev/ttyS0 or similar. Unfortunately, there is no generic ioctl() interface. For accessing specific memory locations, it might be possible to use ExternalBytes cla...

Re: Hardware control

OK. Please note, that FFI in 5.4.2 is broken (when C function returns a pointer, the highest bit lost and
thus the returned value becomes unusable. 5.3.6 release is perfectly OK.
(this bug is fixed in ExternalBytes.st r1.72)
