Re: Reserved words

there are not too many reserved words; however, there is some heuristic built into the SyntaxHighlighter to optionally use a different color for message selectors which are "know to be control flow messages" - i.e. if, while, for etc. To see the effect, first choose a syntax highlighting s...

Re: Help with Win32Process

notice that you can execute any command with input, output and stderr redirected onto a smalltalk stream: Unix: |myStream| myStream := WriteStream on:(String new). OperatingSystem executeCommand:'ls -l' outputTo:myStream. ^ myStream contents Windows: |myStream| myStream := WriteStream on:(String new...

Re: Help with Win32Process

also notice, that Win32Process is (as the name implies) Windows OS-specific. Use OperatingSystem for portability (even if you use shell-commands, these might run unchanged on Windows with a cygwin- or similar shell installed).

Re: Any possibility that ST/X will be open source sometime?

we do not plan to make librun and stc open source (*). The rest is already. We do have an agreement here at exept that: (1) if I (claus) am undable or unwilling to further support st/x, the rest of the team will continue or choose (2). (2) if exept is no longer willing to or able to support st/x, we...

Re: problem with enable/disable menuItem

John, personally, I would not use explicit enable/diabled for menuItems and especially not follow the container hierarchy (i.e. componentAt: - scrolledView) it does work, but is pretty fragile, whenever you change the layout or containments or names. I useually use a postBuild-callback and remember ...

Re: PersistencyManager bug?

Sorry to admit, but the DBase stuff is a wrapper for the dbm/db1.6 btree database library which is not avail. on win32 systems. This has originally only been available for unix machines and we never spent the time to port it to windows. Actually any port of any C-code to windows is pretty painful an...

Re: subspec vs subcanvas?

Hi John ! a subspec is like a "macro", simply reusing an existing spec and placing widgets into the current view using the current builder to resolve aspects. Therefore, any aspects are resolved (via that builder) from the current application as usual. A subcanvas is more like a "call...

Re: PersistencyManager bug?

I just removed the "Notice, that this is (currently) only supported for Unix architectures." comment in PersistencyManager - meaning that gdbm support is now also avail. for win-users. If anyone wants to try it: there is a "libdbase.dll" to be found in the download area: ftp://ww...
