Hi,

is there any chance that Smalltalk/X is available for OpenSolaris Intel/AMD x86 (not sparc)?

are there plans to release a Intel/AMD 64 bit version of Smalltalk/X, for Win, Linux and OpenSolaris ?

Thanks for the reply,

How much do you need the OpenSolaris port (it would technically not be much of a problem, but someone has to set up a VM, install the OS etc.) SO it would be maybe half a day of work or so here...

A 64bit port is very likely to appear soon - actually we already have a lot of stuff ready for 64bit, due to the alpha port (which is no longer of any interest, but the ifdefs are still in the vm). There will be a little bit of jitter code to make the existing x86 jitter be 64bit aware. So it will not be before summer to be released.

Hi Claus,

Thank you for your answers, good to know that a 64 bit version in on its way!

I am only a hobbyist using OpenSolaris because it has the ZFS filesystem and out of curiousity. So I am in no desperate need of Smalltalk/X on OpenSolaris. But it would be nice, and probably others might find it attractive.
So if you might happen to be interested also, I would very much appreciate the effort. I cannot pay for it though, since I am not very rich :)
By the way: installing OpenSolaris in itself is extremely easy and quickly done ...
